Who you talk to

You talk to an independent local provider. Not a call center script. Not a stranger from out of state.

The provider is a separate business. They run their own crews, set their own prices and decide what they can take on.

What happens on the call

Expect a few simple questions. Be ready to answer them.

• What is happening? Leak, backup, slow drain, no water?
• Where is it? Kitchen, bath, basement, yard?
• Is the water shut off?
• How long has it been going on?

Shut it off first. If you can, close the main valve or the valve under the fixture. Then describe what you see. Photos help.

The provider will tell you if they can come and when they might arrive. Availability varies. Many can respond quickly, but nobody can promise a time. Request a callback to check provider availability.

What to ask a plumber

Ask before you agree to anything.

• Are you licensed to work in my state?
• Can I get a written quote before you start?
• What could change the price?
• Do you need a camera inspection for a sewer line?
• Will you explain what you find?
• Can you help document damage for an insurance claim?

Typical U.S. costs range widely. A simple drain clearing may cost a little. Sewer line repair can cost much more. Price depends on the job, the pipe and the access. Always get it in writing.

You are in control

You can say no. You can ask for another quote. You can ask the provider to stop and explain.

If something feels off, say so. A good provider will not rush you into work you do not understand.

Homes with stone or block foundations and old pipes can hide surprises. Ask the provider to show you what they found.
